item 5 KNOW YOUR RIGHTS! 14SEP2005
The Politics & Justice Movement Presents KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
The "KNOW YOUR RIGHTS" event aims to bring legal experts, community
activists, students, and scholars together to share information and
experiences around the complexities of policing and community relations
locally, nationally and globally. Engaging with the long-standing
struggles of African American and Latino struggles to make policing more
accountable and responsive to community needs, this forum hopes to bring
these issues into a post-9/11 context where under the guise of
counter-terrorism civil liberties here in the US and human rights
globally are being eroded at an every faster pace. Sponsored by the Politics
and Justice Movement, a coalition of community-based groups and individuals,
the event will bring together diverse constituents to focus our energies on
how to know and best use the rights we still have.
Doors open 6:30pm
Wednesday 9/14 @ The Moon
1105 E. Lafayette St.
